Singing in the Rain

Erheim played a little tune on the lute, the notes ringing out clear and joyful in the near-silence of the abandoned citadel.

He paused.

The noise of the rain outside now seemed less threatening. In fact, before the few notes faded in the high-ceilinged building, the rain seemed to be drumming a counterpoint to the song.

The bard began the song anew.

"Alone one night
Quite a fearful sight
A lonely team did wait.
For a signal count
On a nearby mount
to sweetly seal their fate!"

Tully frowned.

"Their weapons strong
Didn't last too long
Against the claws
and fangs of the vicious beast;
Still it rings true
That all the dragons knew
These men were a glorious feast!"

Argeil took a bite of his bread. "What about Tully?" He asked with a full mouth, scattering crumbs. "Does she escape?"

Erheim paused thoughtfully.

"One young girl
In a fiery whirl
swung a blade of smoke and steel.
Like a flimsy toy
The girl did destroy
The dragon of Winterheel!"

Reth choked on his ale. "Why is she the hero?"

Erheim plucked a few stray notes on the lute and offered Reth an impish smile. "Because I like her better than you."
