It's about time I finally got Vortex trained.

Shiloh desperately wished Declan was home; he'd never believe this when she told him.

Their mother never did anything impulsive. Especially not when the horses were involved. The idea that she would buy a young thoroughbred simply because she reminded her of a horse she'd owned when she was a kid...it was weird. To say the least.

The old wooden fence creaked beneath Shiloh when she adjusted her seat. She knew her grandparents had raised and trained racehorses back when her mom was a kid, so that explained it...a little.

Rachel flew past, perched high on the gray mare's back. Shiloh raised a hand to shield her eyes from the cloud of dust that followed.

It didn't make any sense.

Rachel and Vortex slowed to a stop, and Levi read out their time around the makeshift track. Rachel let out a whoop and raised her hands in the air with a laugh.

It didn't make any sense, but if it made her mom that happy, Shiloh could get behind it. She hopped off the fence, wiping flaked-off bits of white paint from the fence off of the backs of her legs.

"That was awesome, Mom!"
